Opened in 1980 by Kenneth Hall, Bandon Dental is Bandon’s longest-established dental practice. With a cigarette smoke-filled reception and only one surgery in the ’80s and ’90s, it was purchased in 1998 by Barry O’Driscoll, who built two more surgeries and introduced a dental hygienist.
Today the building is going through its third renovation, introducing a bright open-plan reception area and a renovation of all three surgeries. Five dentists currently work at Bandon Dental, as well as two dental hygienists and seven dental assistants.
A lot has changed since 1980, and there is a lot more to come.
Deirdre has over 20 years’ experience in the dental industry.
Starting as a dental nurse in 2002, she qualified with a Diploma from University College Cork in 2004.
She spent the next 11 years working in a well-established practice in Cork and taking on the role of practice manager, overseeing the smooth operation of a 5 surgery general practice that also specialised in implants, veneers, lumineers, orthodontics, crowns and dentures as well as fillers and Botox.
In 2015 Deirdre took a career break and in 2016 she went back into education securing an Honours Diploma in Dental Hygiene from University College Cork in 2018.
With this she secured many opportunities such as Dental Hygiene roles in Apple Wellness Centre, Hollyhill and Bandon Dental.
An opportunity arose in 2021 to purchase Bandon Dental and given Deirdre’s vast experience it was a natural, progressive step in her career.
Deirdre has developed extensive knowledge of policy’s and procedures over her 20 years in the industry and has a keen interest in learning, developing and updating on an ongoing basis.
