  What are Dentures?

  Dentures are removable false teeth for patients with one or more missing teeth. There are two main types of dentures commonly used, complete and partial. Complete dentures are a full set of replacement false teeth for all of your upper or lower teeth; partial dentures are a replacement for one or more missing teeth. Dentures can either be fitted over the gums or directly on the remaining teeth.

  Acrylic partial dentures are one or more false teeth attached to a base made of acrylic which is fitted comfortably to the teeth and gums. Acrylic is preferable to other partial denture materials due to their low cost, but also because they provide excellent retention and stability. Moreoever, patients may prefer acrylic if they are in the process of undergoing tooth extraction for multiple teeth since acrylic partials can accommodate more false teeth as more teeth are extracted.

  Chrome Partial Dentures

  For patients that want a more permanent partial denture solution, chrome partial dentures are amongst the best choices. Chrome dentures are durable and the chrome cobalt material does not irritate the mouth after prolonged usage. These dentures rest directly on the teeth and are clasped securely to your remaining teeth, which provides much better resistance to biting and in turn often allows patients to eat a full and open palate.

  Custom-Fitted Denture Procedure

  Creating custom partial dentures often requires several appointments with your dentist. During the first visit(s), your dentist will create an impression of your jaw. In the meantime, the dentist will create various wax forms and plastic models for you to try on. During subsequent visits, you will be able to sample the various models until you’re satisfied with one. The dentist will then create a permanent set of dentures and adjust them for you.

  If you’re missing one or more teeth, dentures can be an excellent solution to restoring your smile and the functionality of your teeth.
